Verri

Brand System / Illustration / Social Graphics

Role: Jr Graphic Designer

A refreshed logo, custom illustrations, and a social brand system developed for young professionals looking to have their climate contributions taken care of.

Verri was repositioning itself in the eco-technology space and needed an updated identity that reflected its new consumer-focused approach while remaining true to the brand vision; a solution for consumers looking to have their climate contributions quietly and reliably handled.

I worked with the team to ideate and refine the Verri logo, maintaining key elements of the existing mark while introducing softer edges on a bolder type to feel grounded and accessible to the average user. I also completed a set of illustrations that acted as hero elements for the brand and were used both in product and on social media.

A pivot

Illustrations

The usage of AI-generated assets was initially explored to increase the speed of illustration production, but was later scrapped due to a misalignment with the company’s mission and values. I was tasked with taking these initial renders and bringing the human quality back in by building off the concepts, refining the compositions, and completing the rendering myself in Procreate.

Early in the process of refreshing the brand, it was established that incorporating illustrations as hero images would help ground the visual identity, relating back to the environmental side of the brand through chosen imagery and organic textures created in the rendering process.

Digital brushes were chosen based on the tactile qualities they emulated and textures I’d seen in my time in life drawing classes; the visual snow of charcoal, imperfect line weights of ink and graphite, and colour dispersion of pigments in pastels break up the clean shapes and lend a sense of warmth to the final images. Including these textures helped the brand stand out amongst smooth gradients and glows seen across the tech industry.

Thumbnails from the illustration process. Recognizable silhouettes became a key consideration because whether in an app, on a social feed, or in a document, the scene needed to be understood in a variety of sizes.

The social media assets were a place where elements of the larger design system could be shown off. Key parts of illustrations, like the hummingbird and wind turbine, were removed and used independently to extend the use cases for the work. They could be layered over text, or shown to extend beyond image frames, to create a sense of depth and tie the system together.

A leaf shape was developed from the hummingbird icon’s wing and used as a containing shape for images. Placing the environment within the icon’s wing showcased the connection between Verri and their commitment to climate projects, reinforcing the brand message of climate being handled.

Social Design

LinkedIn profile assets paired soft gradients seen in the industry with the illustrations to create something unique and recognizable.
